Designer Spotlight: Cartier
Luxurious, impeccably crafted high-end jewelry is where Beverly Loan Company excels. Cartier is a jewelry house that leads the industry in terms of creativity, quality, and longevity – and an obvious favorite for the loan officers at Beverly Loan.
Cartier was founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in Paris, France in 1847, and his son Alfred took over soon after. Alfred’s sons Louis, Pierre and Jacques then brought the Cartier brand worldwide success.
Louis Cartier created a flat wristwatch after his friend Alberto Santos-Dumont complained of pocket watches while flying. This watch is called the Santos and is still one of the most popular luxury watches sold today. Louis was also responsible for Mystery Clocks, and the iconic carved gemstone “Tutti Frutti” jewellery – the most iconic of which belonged to Daisy Fellowes.
In 1907 Cartier was on its way to becoming one of the most successful watch companies in the world, and signed a contract with Edmond Jeager, of Jeager LeCoultre. It was with this contract that Cartier started producing the Baignoire, Tortue, and Tank watches – all of which are still in production, and more importantly, still fashionable.
The late 1800’s early 1900’s is the time period when Royalty started to take notice and purchase or request jewelry. The list of Royals who wear or wore Cartier is extensive and include Princess Mathilde (niece of Napoleon I), King Edward VII, Maharaja of Patiala, Princess Grace of Monaco, Queen Elizabeth, and The Duke of Windsor and his lover Wallis Simpson. In 1910 Pierre Cartier sold the blue Hope Diamond to American socialite Evalyn Walsh McLean. Cartier had many other socialites and fashion icons among its fans, including Elizabeth Taylor, Marìa Fèlix, Marjorie Merriweather Post, and more recently Eva Mendes, Kate Middleton, Beyonce, and Michelle Obama.
Throughout the years Cartier continued to create watches and jewelry collections that would only continue to grow in popularity. In 1924 the Trinity Collection was introduced, which pairs rose, yellow and white gold. Arguably one of the most popular jewelry collections in the world, the Love Collection, was released in 1970 from designer Aldo Cipullo. This collection, which started with the Love Bracelet, has become exceedingly trendy in recent years. Cipullo also designed the Juste Un Clou Collection, which looks like a nail curved perfectly to fit your wrist. In 1985 the Pasha de Cartier watch was introduced, and in 2003 the Panthère de Cartier Collection was launched, which is a current favorite in high fashion.
These creations have withstood the test of time and continue to stay relevant with the rich and famous; as well as with everyday people who dip into their savings account just for a small portion of Cartier style. Beverly Loan Company loans against and purchases all Cartier pieces, whether you have a simple Love Bracelet, a diamond encrusted Tank Anglaise, or a one-of-a-kind diamond and pearl tiara.
