Beverly Loan Company, the luxury lender of Beverly Hills, offers pawn loans on contemporary and modern art – including skateboard decks by the world’s best artists. Fine art decks are starting to command unbelievable prices. Artists like Banksy, Damien Hirst, Shepard Fairey and Takashi Murakami all have limited edition skateboard decks that have sold for tens of thousands of dollars. These decks are often manufactured by skating companies like Supreme or Alien Workshop.

While skateboarding itself has been around since the 1940’s, it’s not until the 1970’s where the sport started to gain a following in southern California. Between 1976 and 1982 over 200 public skate parks were built, and the skating culture was thriving. Artists were particularly drawn to the culture, and started expressing themselves on the skateboard decks.

While the practice of creating art on skateboards is not a new concept, world-renowned artists designing limited edition art specifically for skate decks has only been around in the last decade. Beverly Loan has witnessed up-and-coming artists rise up in the art world and join the masters using this same medium.

The concept has taken off, with fans waiting in lines for hours just to grab limited edition pieces, and for good reason. At Christie’s in 2013, Jeff Koons’ Monkey Train set of three decks sold for $16,250, and Keith Haring’s signed skateboard from 1987 also sold for $16,000 at Phillips. South American artist Jose Antonio Hernandez-Diez sold three skateboards for $28,000 in 2008 at Sotheby’s Auction House.

If you have a limited edition skateboard decks you would like to pawn or sell, please email art@beverlyloan.com with the details, and a loan officer will contact you.
